Best of the Beat Awards New Orleans 2022

Hello interested folks. After a few a two year hiatus, the Best of the Beat Awards for New Orleans will happen Nov 10 at the New Orleans Jazz Museum. Myself, as well as my Extended bandmates and friends, Matt Booth and Oscar Rossignoli have each been nominated for Best Drummer, Best Bass Player, and Best Pianist/Keyboardist respectively. First time nominations for both Matt and I; Oscar has been nominated damn near every year since arriving in the Crescent City. Extended has also been nominated for Best Contemporary Jazz Artist and our latest record, Without Notice, was also nominated for Best Contemporary Jazz Album. Oscar’s debut solo record, Inertia, was nominated for Album of the Year. Massive congrats to that guy. He truly is an amazing musician, creator, improviser, and friend. Getting to play alongside he and Matt has given me some of the most amazing experiences in my life and I couldn’t be happier for them.

Doesn’t stop there either… Little Bigby, the debut record with close friend and creator, Byron Asher was also nominated for Contemporary Jazz Album. Longtime collaborator, Brad Walker, and fellow bandmate and road trip companion, Aurora Nealand, have both been nominated, yet again, for Best Saxophone. And although I’m not on the record, new band, Boma Bongo, with my oldest friend in music, Trey Boudreaux, has been nominated for Best Emerging Artist, Best Country/Folk/Singer-Songwriter Artist and the band’s debut record. Etranger, was nominated for Best Country/Folk/Singer-Singwriter Artist as well.

Awards sure aren’t why any of us do this. Creating music with my closest friends, performing, traveling, connecting… That’s what makes This life fulfilling. But it is nice to see my bandmates and I next to the names of players I have so much love and respect for in this city. Visit here to check out the other nominees and cast your votes. But mostly just listen to the music, watch the videos, go to the shows, drink the drinks and eat the food.
